I says to my computer... ‘No, you can't do this. I don't care if it's the 14th anniversary of our computerized paper list. I can't double our volume discounts. Sure, I'll sell a lot of trains, but I won't make any....' My computer interrupts...'Shut up cheapo. This is a special list. You have to make it special. You can't fool around here. These are people who have been buying from you for years. You have to treat them right, because they are the only reason you're still in biz. Get it? And furthermore I'm going to slash a whole bunch of prices in ‘my' database. And that's the way it'll be cause it's my anniversary, not yours!' I watched in horror as my computer started going wild, slashing the prices of pages of items. This couldn't be happening. It was like a nightmare. How will I feed the kids? What about the baby sitter's fees? We need gas for the mower! How will I bring home the bacon? But worse, now we'll probably be too busy this month to go golfing! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! OK, so I dramatized it a little bit. The kid's are grown. We don't need a baby sitter anymore. But you get the idea. This is our 14th anniversary, and we want to make it special for us and for you. So take advantage of our doubled volume discounts click here for more info on this month's discounts. Boy did I buy something really strange this past month! You may not know, but my store is located around 10 miles away from the old Marx train factory in Girard, PA. I used to buy gobs of Marx trains. As a matter of fact when we started our price list 14 years ago, it consisted mainly of Marx Trains. But they sort of dried up. (Ironically just a minute or two ago I was interrupted from writing this and purchased two more Marx sets in the store.) Could it be karma? At any rate that day last month in came several boxes of tin Marx trains. Now some of the rolling stock is actually pre war with the old pre war couplers. But a good portion is actually the post war 3/16 type rolling stock with pre war couplers. I thought maybe they were put on after market, but no, they look like they are factory jobs. The only thing that I can think of is that someone who worked at the Marx plant like the pre war couplers better, had a supply of them and made these. It had to be something like that wouldn't you think? At any rate, they will appear in the database soon. (My goal is later today.) Just browse under ‘Marx 8 Wheel Rolling Stock'. And of course on the 8th of June they will appear in the Marx Text List. If you have ever heard of this type of variation on Marx rolling stock, please let us know. We are getting a little more caught up processing the collections we purchased last month. With any luck we will be completely caught up and have the back room totally clean waiting for the next collection by the end of the week. (Yea, sure that'll happen!) Actually maybe if we don't buy any more collections for the rest of the year and put lots of effort into it that will happen by say... Thanksgiving? Heaven forbid! Actually I am working on some new collections that hopefully will work out. But in the meantime, I will try to tackle some of the items that have walked in the store recently. Well I'd better get going. My computer is starting to fuss that I have work to do. I think I've created a monster. That darn computer!
