Lionel Catalogues

Several years ago we bought our first 'old time' dealer out. That was the first collection that we bought full cases of original catalogues. Since then we have done the same thing on at least 4 other occasions. For instance at one time we had over 1000 1950 catalogues in stock. All from original cases, all truly mint. Over the years we have been selling these catalogues through ads in magazines.

If you would like to see a complete selection and prices of Lionel catalogues in stock, plus thousands of electric trains, please visit our price list. Or go to our searchable database browse on 'Lionel Paper', or search for the particular date you are looking for.

1930 Consumer Catalogue 11-1/4" x 8" , full color, 48 pages. Ah, the good old days. How about a brand new 252 for 8.50, or a 260E for 21.50, or a 390E brand new for $35.00. or how about a blue one with the passenger cars for $65.00. Yep, the good old days!!!!
1931 Consumer Catalogue11-1/4" x 8" , full color, 52 pages. I'll tell you, looking at one of these old catalogues makes the reality that these beautiful trains and accessories actually existed in new condition very real! How about an 840 Power Station for $22.50. Ah, why did my folks have to eat back then!!!
1933 Consumer Catalogue 11-1/4" x 8" , full color, 52 pages. I'd never seen this catalogue before, but this great. Just brings that nostalgia singing at you. Everything is antique about this catalog. Especially the condition that catalog itself is in. But catalogues from the 30's and before are very hard to find in nice shape.
1942 Consumer Catalogue 11-1/4" x 8" , full color, 32 pages. A very patriotic cover. Of course that might have had something to do with the war. This is a classic cover though. A very interesting catalog to look through indeed. It even shows lionel OO, which was produced only a couple of years.
1946 Consumer Catalogue8-1/2 x 11-1/4" , full color, 16 pages. I don't know why, but this is one of my favorite covers. The kid looks really, really happy, doesn't he? Of course the war was the reason this was such an abbreviated catalog. Lionel had been busy building war machines, not trains over the past couple of years!
1946 Advance Catalogue 11-1/4" x 8" , black, white, and red, 24 pages. This is somewhat of a rare catalog. Advance catalogs are the wholesale catalog that goes to dealers. Thus as a rule, advance catalogs are much harder to locate that consumer catalogs.
1947 Consumer Catalogue8-1/2 x 11-1/4" , full color, 32 pages. Believe it or not I only have one of these in stock, and I just sold it, so I had to hurry up this scan and description. My favorite set in this catalog is number 1432. That's the 221 with the 2430 three car passenger set in blue. That is a sharp set in my book!! I don't own one. I'll have to do something about that!!!
1948 Consumer Catalogue 11-1/4" x 8" , full color, 36 pages. We had several of these mint at one time, but I think I priced them to low, as they sold out fast. Occasionally I acquire these usually in used condition. Please check our database or text files to see if I have one.
1949 Consumer Catalogue 11-1/4" x 8" , full color, 38 pages. At one point we had over 250 of these. But now the quantity is under 10. Sold one today, so these will not last long! Sorry they did sell out!
1950 Consumer Catalogue 11-1/4" x 8" , full color, 44 pages. This is our best selling year. So far 1048 have been sold. It had better be the best selling catalogue with the number we had at one time!
1950 Consumer Catalogue (Sorry) 11-1/4" x 8" , red & black on white, 40 pages. It states on the front cover: 'Sorry! Our supply of the big 4-color Lionel Catalog is exhausted, due to the tremendous demand for Lionel Trains. We are substituting this complete catalog in 2 colors.'
1950 Advanced Catalogue 11-1/4" x 8" , red & black on white, 48 pages. If you get your hands on this catalogue, you will go nuts because the pages aren't numbered. But a little over half way through is the extremely hard to find #213 Lift Bridge. It's hard to find because Lionel for some reason decided not to make it!!!
1951 Consumer Catalogue 11-1/4" x 7-3/4" , full color, 36 pages. This is the first Lionel catalogue I ever saw. Made me fall in love with Lionel! Only around six left at this writing. Should sell out very soon. Sorry they did!
1952 Consumer Catalogue 11-1/4" x 7-3/4", full color, 36 pages. My favorite catalogue, and the second that I came across. Of course I was only 2 at the time. I think it tasted better than it looked!!
1953 Consumer Catalogue 11-1/4" x 7-5/8" , full color, 40 pages. This one comes with a dealers stamp on it. Every single issue that I own is like that!! The stamp also left a mark. Still a good seller.
1953 Pocket Catalogue 8 x 5-5/8", tri color, 32 pages. This is the exact cover as the big one. Not exactly the same inside. Some color.
1954 Consumer Catalogue 11 1/4" x 7 5/8" , full color, 44 pages. Unfortunately this is one issue we are sold out of.
1954 Pocket Catalogue 8 x 5-5/8", tri color, 32 pages. Same as the 1953 pocket, in that it has the exact cover as the regular 1953 catalogue. Some color. Very limited quantity. Sorry, they did sell out.
1955 Consumer Catalogue 11-1/4" x 7- 5/8" , full color, 44 pages. Notice the sets on the cover? That Illinois Central set I picked up for $20.00 many years ago when I was just getting into trains!!! Just a few left! These sold out also.
1956 Consumer Catalogue 11-1/4" x 7-5/8" , full color, 40 pages. Don't you just love this cover? Mint. Sorry this sold out.
1957 Consumer Catalogue 11-1/4" x 7-1/2" , full color, 52 pages. This cover is gorgeous!! I love it! We have under 100 left. (Have sold over 700 copies since we started.) We ran out, but we just purchased some more. Buy them while we have them!
1958 Consumer Catalogue 11-1/4" x 7-5/8" , full color, 56 pages. The glory years were starting to wain by this date. What a decade it had been for trains! I know I've said this before, but I love this cover too!!
1959 Consumer Catalogue 11- 1/4" x 8 1/2" , full color, 56 pages. The elusive 1959 catalogue may be the rarest of all the 1950's catalogues. However we have just found some to sell you. I really like this cover also! Buy them while available.
1960 Consumer Catalogue 11" x 8-3/8" , full color, 56 pages. Lionel goes to the family, instead of just Son and Dad! The super O track, and unfortunately around the beginning of the end for The Lionel Corporation.
1960 Advanced Catalogue 8 1/2" x 11" , Color cover, black & white inside, 60 pages. 'Only Lionel can offer this Father and Son identical super "O"-HO twin railroad empire.' I love advanced catalogues which are hard to find. They contain prices. How about a #58 Great Northern Rotary Snow Plow for 14.95? Had you been smart back then you could have bought 50 of them as an investment. Who knew?
1961 Consumer Catalogue 8-1/2 x 11" , full color, 72 pages. Lionel includes the Porter Science Lines in this catalogue in addition to it's train line. Also included are HO items. I call this the 'cheapening' of Lionel, as they scramble to survive in an every changing train market. Lot of catalogue for the money!
1961 Advanced Catalogue 8-1/2 x 11" , black & white, 76 pages. No, that is not Walt Disney on the cover. At least that is what I always thought. That is John B. Medaris, the President of Lionel. Could his resemblance to Disney have anything to do with the choice for his presence on this catalogue?
1970 Consumer Catalogue 8-1/2 x 11" , full color. This is actually a poster that is folded 3 times. The full poster measures 22 x 34. It is an interesting piece of Lionel paper to say the least. The odd thing about it is that it has the dates 1903 - 1970. I always thought that Lionel Cowen started in 1900! Who goofed?
