We have a database that dates back to the mid 1990's. Every time we sell a train item it is recorded in the table of the database the date and amount that item was sold for. We also have a program that is written to utilize this data to come up with a value as close as we can for what we feel we can sell the item for. Of course this pretty much equals our last sales price.
Once we calculate what we feel we can sell the collection for, we then figure in a fair margin that makes our quote a wholesale figure rather than retail. Depending on the size of the collection, the desirability of the collection, and the average sales price of the collection we come up with a percentage which is usually between 50% and 60% of the estimated retail value. You can actually come up with a close estimate of what we may offer you for your collection if you have the time on your hands. We publish a price guide of which the prices are based on past sales. If you have the time you can use our price guide and come up with an approximate amount of which we may offer you. You are welcome to check out our price guide here.
